There are some things that happen to a writer that never seem to grow old. Yesterday I found one of those package notices in my P.O. Box. I wasn't expecting anything, so I was surprised to receive a large, heavy box. Then I saw the sender's information and realized I'd received the author copies to my new travel book, Exploring Texas History: Weekend Adventures. The book has a May release date and should be available in April. I knew I would be receiving the copies soon, but not this soon.
It is difficult to describe the feeling you get when you pick up your first copy of a bound book and actually see the thing that has been in your mind and on so many manuscript pages finally in its final form. It's still a really cool experience. Elaine, my co-author had the same feeling. It's also a major prod to get started on promotions.
